Excellent wins for the 2nd and 3rd team on Saturday

Bury St Edmunds travelled to Downham Stow on Saturday, captain Ben Harris won the toss and elected to bat but there followed the worst possible start losing Justin Bishop early, Archie Jones followed on 28 but opener Will Routledge and Harry Gallian produced some excellent batting putting on 142 runs taking the score to 170.2 when Gallian was out for 55 as so often happens one wicket brings two and Routledge was out for an outstanding 86. Bury had looked at achieving a big score but good bowling and fielding by the home team restricted them to 257.6 Freddie Heldreich (17) being run out with Tom Rash (26) and Ben Harris (19) both not out at the end. Otto Esse taking 2.37.
Downham Stow also lost an early wicket as Dan Shanks bowled William Denny for 6 but the Wilcox brothers batted well putting on 129 for the second wicket before Ben Wilcox was caught and bowled Harris for 50, his brother went on to score 66 being 5th out for on 189. At 210.6. Bury had a chance to win the match but Hudson De Lucchi (30) and Adam Todd (12) took the home side over the line, Bury’s score was the highest first innings of the day but not enough to secure a win. Two wickets each for Shanks and Ben Whittaker.

In the Two Counties League Division One Burys 2nd team secured their first win of the season at home to East Bergholt the visitors chose to bat and were going well on 36.0 but then lost 3 wickets without scoring all from the bowling of 16 year old Isaac Walshe who looks a very good prospect, already working with the Essex Academy Walshe took his time to find his line and length but his bowling spell turned the match in the home sides favour and East Bergholt never fully recovered, losing two wickets at 61.5 and a further two wickets at 82.8. Jacob Meredith had travelled back from Loughborough University and was rewarded with 3.28. Sam Aldous with 2.21. The visitors were all out for 121 in 36.5 overs. Walshe finishing with 10.1.31.4.
Bury’s reply started well before Max Whittaker was out for 13 on 26 and also lost James Sturgeon on the same score, a further two wickets of Ben Curran and Josh Owen fell and at 52.4 East Bergholt were back in the game but captain James McKinney after a big score the previous Sunday played well for 26 being 5th out on 89. Aldous was 6th out for 7 on 100 but it was Ned Stanton who come in at the fall of the first wicket that ensured Bury secured their first win as he scored the winning runs with a big 6 to finish 47 not out off just 49 deliveries. A win that takes the team up to 9th of the 12 teams and builds confidence after a tough start in this high level of cricket.

Bury’s 3rd team had a good win against Frinton’s 3rd team, the visitors scored 170.7 Amritpal Harrad scoring 60 not out and Ahil William 25 before being bowled by young Oscar Grove.
2 wickets each for Vivek Rajagopal and Ujjawal Verma and one for Imogen Grove.
Burys victory was secured thanks to an outstanding innings from Simon Aldous who carried his bat for the innings being 97 not out which included 14 x 4. Ammad Hassan Fida made 28, Nitin Modi 22 not out and Arlo Bhavsar 15. A good win on an excellent pitch.
