
Bury St Edmunds travelled to Witham where the home side won the toss and elected to bat losing Michael Godwin early to Ben Whittaker (1) but the recovery was led by Jamal Richards who scored 54 from 59 deliveries before being caught and bowled by Freddie Heldreich an important wicket on 86.2 Josh Cantrell then removed opener Harrison McDonald (29) caught by Alex Maynard and Chris Huntington (6) caught Ben Harris, it was Harris with a run out that broke the resulting partnership as Jake Wakelin departed for 54 a run later Kaan Hawes was out for 40 bowled Cantrell with the score on 196.6 . Harris had a further run out and the wicket of Mason McDonald as the home team finished on 244.9. Bury fielded the majority of the innings as young Isaac Walshe damaged a finger fielding not a great way to remember his EAPL debut. This was a good all round bowling performance with a fielder short. Alex Cruickshank bowled 7 overs for just 18 runs. Whittaker taking 1.33, Tom Rash 0.35, Harris 1.44, Heldreich 2.54 and Cantrell 3.53.
Bury started well with Maynard making a quickfire 11that included a 4 and 6 but departed on 19. Archie Jones entered the fray and with Justin Bishop took the score to 81 before Bishop was out for a patent 34 off 49 deliveries. There followed an excellent partnership between two young players with Harry Gallian scoring at a run a ball being third out at 188 for 54, it was without doubt Jones’s day as he batted with great authority and distinction achieving a maiden EAPL century having been joined by Cantrell who was a man in a hurry making 25 not out off 14 but Jones remained undefeated on 103 an superb innings from 97 deliveries that included 12 x 4 and 2 x 6.
A good start to the season for the visitors and good that two young players made their mark.
Burys 2nd team played Wivenhoe won the toss and batted on a very good Victory Ground wicket James Sturgeon was out early to a superb catch by Tom Durrell off James. Lucking. Max Whittaker and Josh Owen played well taking the score to 81 when Owen was out for 31, soon after Whittaker completed his 50 that included 5 x 4. Sam Aldous made 33 and Oliver Riddick 32 with 19 not out from Jacob Meredith and 14 from James McKinney in a final total of 220.
Bury made early inroads to the Wivenhoe reply with Adam Kizis taking a wicket with the first ball to an excellent catch by wicket keeper Whittaker. Bury were certainly on top as Kizis took 3 wickets and Meredith and Sam Aldous one each at 81.5 Bury looked in a strong position but it became the Gustav McKeen show as Wivenhoe’s overseas player coach batted with great authority despatching any loose deliveries as he accumulated 129 runs that included 17 x 4 and 4 x 6 he was out on 200 leaving the tail enders to reach the target. Kizis taking 3.43 and Aldous 2.40.
Wivenhoe won by 4 wickets.
Bury’s 3rd team were well beaten by Nowton’s 2nd team. Bury made 178 Ammad Hassan Fida top scored with 60 supported by Vjjawal Verma (34) Viq Ahmed (19) and Nick Curran with 17 Eamon Balaam taking 3.42. In reply the Bury bowlers toiled in vain as Sam Rolfe scored 108 not out and Harry Rolfe 55 not out as the visitors scoring the target without losing a wicket.
