Bury St Edmunds hosted Downham Stowe in the East Anglian Premier League on Saturday home captain Josh Cantrell lost the toss and was asked to field, runs were hard to come by in the early part of the innings Olly Hooker was out caught by Ben Whittaker with 12 runs on the board and Finlay Wilcox followed on 53 caught Rash bowled Cantrell this proved the first of Cantrell’s 5 wickets as he delivered outstanding figures of 18.5.48.5.
At 151.8 the game was the home sides for the taking but Patrick Yates (55) and Ben Stolworthy (38 not out) took the score to 231.9.
The general consensus was this was a good score and anything over 200 on a spin friendly wicket would be difficult. Bury lost Alex Cruickshank early but Will Routledge (45) and Rash battled hard taking the score to 83 but both were out by 85 runs. None of the home middle order were able to dominate Cantrell taking the game to the visitors with 19 off 20 deliveries. Alex Maynard made 22 useful runs but was unlucky to be given lbw at 174.8 Josh Porter taking 5.66 for Downham Stowe as Bury were all out for 189 with only an over remaining.

Bury’s 2nd team made the trip to East Bergholt and also bowled first in batter friendly conditions Joe Corder took the early wicket of James Platt caught by Zyan Imam. The second wicket of Isaac Toombs fell on 115 caught by James McKinney off Tom Davey for 29 but the dominate partnership of the day followed as Bury toiled in the heat Callum Woolston made 120 out to Sam Aldous caught Max Whittaker and Nicholas Tooley 96 caught Imam bowled by Isaac Walshe in a final total of 319.5
A big task for Bury who lost Imam early but there followed a 95 runs partnership before James Sturgeon was out for 56 off 82 deliveries Oscar Black made 53 off 63 but the task proved insurmountable despite an excellent innings from Davey of 63 not out that included 3 x 4 and 2 x 6. Bury finished on a respectful 250.7. Home bowler Lewis Callow taking 4.46. Bury remain in 11th but 4 teams are in catching distance as the team strive to maintain a place in a very good league.

Bizarre circumstances greeted the 3rd team on their visit to Frinton as the EAPL game was called off between the home side and Ramsey due to a dangerous pitch, the Ramsey opener Jordan Cafferkey having been badly injured.
Frinton chose to play on the very same track that had just been deemed dangerous the home side batted first scoring 142 thanks in the main to J.Jones the major destroyed was Jack Howland with 5.19. Danny Harrison taking 2.28 and Krishna Sinha 2.28, Bury won in the 23rd over thanks to Simon Cruse (28) Sam Harrison (24) and man of the match Howland with 66 not out off 48 deliveries that included 15 x 4. Fortunately no more injuries.

No 4th team game but on Sunday Bury travelled to Bardwell the home side were all out for 99 thanks to a superb bowling display by Artharua Modi with 6.29. Hamidullah Khan taking 2.24. William Brown scored a good 41 for the home team. Bury knocked off the runs for two wickets Simon Aldous making 23 but Saidur Rahman Miju scored 56 not out to seal the win.
During the week the under 15 team lost to Tuddenham’s under 15’s and in the Under 17 Blast Bury had a comfortable win over Walsham Le Willows. Zyan Imam scored 51 not out and Oscar Black 50 not out, good bowling from Seamus Gallagher with 4.25 and Wilf Frost 2.13 ( I thought he was a wicket keeper)
