Bury St Edmunds endured the most frustrating of finishes against Great Witchingham on Saturday, the visitors won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Bury to bat.
The home team battled in bowler friendly conditions and lost wickets at regular intervals William Jarman made a solid 46 taking 96 minutes, the mainstay was Bury captain Josh Cantrell who scored 82 from 83 deliveries that included a 50 run partnership with Tom Rash, both players were out on 177 as Bury were all out for 213 Nathan Muggeridge taking 3.37 and James Hale 3.41.
The visitors lost an early wicket but thanks to Nico Reifer looked like reaching the target but the Bury bowlers took 4 wickets taking the score from 160.5 to 164.9. At this time Bury sensed victory but It was left to Kieron Elliott and Monty Panesar to play out the final deliveries taking just one run off the last 3 overs frustrating the Bury team to a draw. Alex Cruickshank taking 4.53 and Tom Davey 3.44.
Next week Bury play away to Mildenhall as the season returns to the 50 over format for the final 6 matches. The match is important to both teams who remain above Ashmanhaugh who remain bottom of the EAPL despite their home win against Mildenhall.
Bury’s 2nd team travelled to Felixstowe and scored a disappointing 182 the 4th wicket partnership between Sam Aldous (48) and Josh Owen (45) was an important part with Owen Grisby (12) Krushna Sinha (16) and 11 not out from Haydn Smith. Felixstowe reached the target with 4 wickets down with Joe Rusby scoring 71 not out 2 wickets for Joe Corder and one each for Zyan Imam and Aldous.
Burys 3rd team had a disappointing day against Kesgrave’s 2nd team being bowled out for 66 with two players short. The home side reached the target with no loss.
A much better day for Bury’s 4th team who feature 4 senior players and mostly youngsters experiencing senior cricket for their first season, at home to Stowupland’s 2 nd team Bury lost 4 early wickets for 23 runs but Rob Lee playing with his father Martin and younger brother Jack took the game by the scruff of the neck, assisted by the evergreen Kevin Dobson they had a remarkable partnership of 222. Lee scoring 147 and Dobson 73 not out. The final score of 246.6 off 40 overs was always going to be a big challenge. Stowupland scored 122.9. Jala Pathan taking 4 wickets, 3 wickets for Viq Ahmed and two each for Imogen Grove and Tom Howard.
Bury’s Sunday team scored 196 away to Castle Hedingham the home team making 200.3 to win the match.
