Bury St Edmunds travelled to Ramsey on Saturday and scored 302.6. it was a score in many situations good enough to win, captain Josh Cantrell had won the toss and elected to bat, having lost Will Routledge and Alex Maynard early Cantrell (91) and Freddie Heldreich (60) put on 158 for the 3rd wicket. Ben Whittaker made 46 off 27 deliveries being out on 235.5. Tom Rash 50 made not out off 35 deliveries. But Ramsey have secured the services of Sri Lankan International Sandun Weerakkody who batted superbly making 164 runs off 99 deliveries without giving a chance, it was one of the best hundreds witnessed for some time. He was out caught by Maynard off Heldreich. Ben Saunders had scored 52 in an opening stand of 179 before being bowled by Dan Shanks. Isaac Walshe took the wicket of Mark Saunders caught Maynard for 26. The home side won with 16 balls to spare.
At the Victory Ground Bury St Edmunds hosted Halstead who have won the league for the last 4 seasons, clearly a daunting task the visitors won the toss and invited Bury to bat having bowled them out cheap early in the season, but during the course of the season Bury have become more competitive, however the innings started badly with a dreadful mix up that had captain James McKinney dismissed for just 1, James Sturgeon was unlucky to be judged out on 45.2. Bury were delighted to have Graham Napier playing his presence proves a huge boost to all the team, and particularly the young players. Zyan Imam batted well with him for 35 but Napier proved the star performer scoring 79 that included Ali Hamad being sent for 3 x 6 for the first 3 deliveries of his only over, one ending up in the tennis courts. Napier scoring 6 x 6 and 5 x 4.Sam Aldous batted well for 53 that included 9 x 4.Josh Owen scored 19 and Oliver Riddick 16 not out in a final total of 252.8.
Halstead made a good start with last week’s century maker Callum O’Connell being first out for 45 caught by Riddick off Imam. Jason Tyson went soon after bowled Imam for 41. Hamid was out caught Sturgeon off Tom Williamson who on debut was using his left are spin to full effect. Owen accounted for Adrian Grimonneau (32) and Liam Jones (0) but Ryan Vickery remained undefeated on 55 as the visitors reached the target 5 wickets down. Imam taking 2.28. Owen 2.37 and Williamson 1.50 in his 10 overs.
The team remain one from bottom but the season defining games will be those away to Mistley, Clacton and Maldon.
Bury’s 3rd team hosted Two Counties Division 7 leaders Woolpit 3rds the visitors scored 277.9 thanks to Neena Woollaston (70) and Ashley Lilley (40) Max Harrison taking 5.69 and Danny Harrison 3.64. Bury replied with 233.7 with Ammad Hassan Fida scoring 67 Max Harrison (61) and Wilf Frost 39.
Bury’s 4th team were away to Division 9 (West) leaders St Margaret’s and scored 177 with an excellent 68 from Oscar Grove, Kevin Dobson contributing 33 Michael Harland taking 4.22. St Margaret's replied with 181.3 Matthew Canham making 42 not out Grove with 1.24 and Steve Graham 2.25. The team remain in mid table a big improvement from last year.
On Sunday the team visited Melton St Audry's the home side making227.8 Tom Mitchell scoring 71 and two wickets each for Krishna Sinha and Steve Graham. Bury made a good start making 65 for the first wicket it was good to have Yann Johnson playing scoring 27. James McKinney and Sam Aldous both scoring 54 as Bury ended on 181.
Bury’s Under 17 team played Tuddenham in mid week scoring 168 Zyan Imam with 53 but Tuddenham secured the win.

The unpredictability of the East Anglian Premier League was highlighted on Saturday the match of the day between the top two teams Horsford and Copdock was expected to be a high scoring encounter on a ground that has become renowned for high scoring. But home side Copdock on winning the toss elected to field and promptly bowled out the league leaders for just 66 runs, Horsford never recovered from losing Nathan Muggeridge in the first over and Jason Reynolds soon after being bowled out in just 22.1 overs Mihlali Mpongwana with 10.1.265 and Andy Hanby 10.0.34.4. The home side did not make it easy losing 5 wickets to victory Ollie Burle being out for 18 and Sam Arthurton for 24. The 25 pints takes Copdock to the summit 16 points clear of long term league leaders . Sawston who are now level with Horsford won well away to Downham Stowe scoring an excellent 330.5 Freddie Fairey making 81, Ethan Rise 116 not out and lee Thompson 68. The home side were all out for 213 with Ben Cilvard taking 4.49.
The unpredictability of the league was further emphasised at Sudbury in an all Suffolk encounter with Mildenhall, Sudbury no doubt regretted the decision on winning the toss to field because there followed the most comprehensive batting demolition of a bowling attack ever in a 50 over a side EAPL game. No less than 551 runs were scored on what is always regarded as a small ground and with a very fast outfield the home bowlers toiled in vain.
The statistics were remarkable Peter Worthington was first out in the 18th over having scored 107 off 74 deliveries. Darren Ironside was second out for a modest 38 in the 34th over with the score on 315. Matt Allen scored 192 off 103 deliveries that included 16 x 4 and 15 x 6 being 3rd out in the 42 over for 192 and alongside the mayhem Kc Cariappa scored 112 off 42 deliveries that included 4 x 4 and 14 x 6 goodness knows how many balls were lost. The final total of 551.5 must have broken all records for a 50 over game the innings produced a total of 40 x 4 and 46 x 6. A shell shocked Sudbury were bowled out for 132 losing by 419 runs Cariappa taking 3.32 and Dylan Hardy 3.54.

Swardeston kept up the pressure on the leaders with a good home win against bottom club Frinton, the visitors elected to bat and made a good score of 266.9.Arshad making 77 and Nico Boje 53. The home side made the target in the 40th over thanks to Oli Longdon 62 Richard Sims 45 and Alfie Cooper 61 not out.
Finally Ashmanhaugh won can be very indifferent were bowled out for 119 by Wiham Jay Parma scoring 42 and Sam Greer taking 3.21. Witham romped home with losing just one wicket Harrison McDonald making 58 not out and Ruben Thain 50.
Next week there is the potentially dramatic match as Mildenhall host Copdock. Horsford aim to get back to winning ways at hoe to Wiham, Bury St Edmunds host Swardeston. Anything is possible as Frinton visit Sudbury. Finally Sawston play Ramsey and Ashmanhaugh host Downham Stowe.
Last season the final league place to go into the play offs was only decided on the last Saturday with 5 teams in contention.
This season with 5 games to go the league title could go to any of 5 teams Mildenhall are the outsiders but just 17 points separate the top 4.
