Bury St Edmunds came seriously unstuck at home to Horsford, without Josh Cantrell and Freddie Heidreich both unavailable stand in captain Ben Harris took the decision to bowl, however the league leaders made the most of the conditions posting 351.3 thanks to Neil Hornbuckle making 62 of the first 73 runs for the 1st wicket no rest bite as Jason Reynolds made 50 Jordan Neil 64 and Charlie Hood a superb 134 not out. Alex Cruickshank was only able to bowl 3 overs taking a wicket as his recent injury took its toll.
Bury in reply lost Justin Bishop early and only Will Routledge was able to deal with some very good bowling he was out bowled in poor light which did improve but being all out for 106 it was a day for Bury to put behind them and move on.
Bury’s 2nd team played away to Mildenhall’s 2nd team not at full strength but battled well. Mildenhall scored 288.8. The star performance came from former Bury player Tim Catley always a popular figure when he played for Bury and showed he has lost little of his outstanding batting ability scoring 75 and helping add 125 for the 4th wicket. Murtaza Haasain made 45 with two wickets each for Josh Owen, Krishna Sinha and Adam Kizis. Bury started well as Zyan Imam and James Sturgeon put on 67 for the 1st wicket but Imam was out for 11 as Sturgeon battled well making 54 runs. Joe Corder added 22 but Bury were all out for 168.
Better results for the 3rd and 4th teams as both won, Danny Harrison led his team to a win away to Copdock’s 3rd XI Bury posted the excellent score of 288.8 with Vivek Rajagopal top scoring with 76, Ammad Hassan Fida added 34, Wilf Frost 49 Ujjawal Verma 22 but Hamidullah Kharoti threw caution to the wind with an amazing 58 off 28 deliveries that included 3 x 4 and 5 x 6 and Ben Baldock a spirited 15 not out alongside him. Copdock replied with 214.9 Aaron Palmer top scored with 57, Harrison taking 3.45, Vivek 2.24, Kharoti 2.40 and Alex Malcom 2.26. A good win that lifts the team to 5th in Two Counties Division 7.
At the Victory Ground a thoroughly entertaining game between Bury’s 4th team and Worlington’s 3rd side. Bury scored 177.6 with Simon Aldous making 52, Ross Daines 42 and Jack Lee 20 not out, Worlington used 8 different bowlers which ensures all have a big involvement. In reply Worlington were all out for 110 Harry Combes top scored with 19. Jala Pathan taking 5.33 John Nicoll 2.14 and a wicket each for Imogen Grove and Daines. The innings ended due to a superb catch by Oscar Grove. The win takes Bury off the bottom of Two Counties Division 9 with 4 teams within 5 points of one another.
A lot of mid-week cricket took place.
Monday the under 13’s beat Long Melford Bury Scored 125.9 with Lily Gray making 25 and Julian Doherty 21. 2 wickets each for Theo Cowling and Vivan Verma.
Also on Monday Bury’s under 15 team beat Tuddenham having scored 134.2 good contributions from Alexa Melton (16) Jack Lee (14) and Leo Park (13) Tuddenham made 112.6 thanks to James Presland (28) and Charlie Butler (27) Wickets for Melton, Imogen Grove and Tom Howard.
Also on Tuesday away to Sudbury Bury played in pool A of the Suffolk Cup a competition we have won for the last two years. Bury won the toss and posted 142.9. Archie Jones top scored with 47 and Freddie Heidreich making 29. Thomas Tullon and Keelan Waldock taking 3 wickets each for the hosts.
Sudbury ended on 137.8 with Kenny Moulton-Day scoring 41. 2 wickets each for Ben Whittaker and Isaac Walshe.
On Wednesday Bury played Woolpit away in the Suffolk Cup Plate Pool B Bury scored 124.7 with 39 from Ross Daines and 36 from Steven Graham. Jessica Broad had excellent figures of 4.13. Woolpit reached the target thanks to both Jonty Le Compete and Leo McLennon being retired having scored 50 each.
On Friday the under 11 hardball team played away to Copdock. Thehome team scored 125.6. Bury lost scoring 86.9.
On Sunday two under 9 teams played away to Stowmarket and had a very enjoyable morning, winning all 4 matches.
