No wins but every match closely contested.
Two mid table teams Bury St Edmunds and Witham played out an exciting and close encounter at the Victory Ground, stand-in captain Ben Harris invited Witham to bat who scored 58 before losing both openers Michael Godwin bowled Tom Davey and Harrison McDonald run out by Davey as he was backing up. A further two wickets fell on 107 Jamal Richards caught and bowled by Dan Shanks (27) and Reuben Thain caught by Will Routledge off Freddie Heldreich for 22. Witham’s middle order played well Australian Sam Greer making 24 and Philip Gray 53 supported by Cody MacDonald (21) and Leroy Facey 28 not out in a final total of 260 all out Daniel Shanks taking 4.59. 2 wickets for Harris and a wicket each for Tom Rash, Davey and Heldreich.
Witham started with some of the most hostile bowling seen this season on a good flat track with plenty of bounce. Routledge scoring 24 off 30 deliveries being first out for Alex Maynard was ducking and diving being second out on 38. Archie Jones had made a maiden EAPL century in the earlier encounter but was out for 10 off 47 deliveries when Heldreich was out for 23 at 118.5. Witham looked very well placed but Sean Park and Harris batted exceptionally well the partnership of 77 was broken by Greer as Harris was out for 47 off just 27 deliveries which included some lusty blows with 6 x 4 and 2 x 6 The wicket of Park on 223.8 proved crucial as Harry Gallian was hampered by an injury and was out coming late in the innings as the home side were all out for 226.

A theme of the weekend was every match proved close, the 2nd team travelled to Wivenhoe the home side scoring 297.6 with Matt Durrell scoring 103 and Freddie Stiffell scoring 99 only to be caught and bowled by Oliver Riddick. Riddick taking 3.36 Isaac Walshe 2.64 and Zyan Imam although not taking a wicket bowled well his 10 overs only going for 44 runs. Bury got within 12 runs of the target ending on 286.9 Alex Cruickshank making 87 off 106 deliveries including 8 x 4. Riddick scored 37, Wilf Frost 34 not out 21 deliveries and Imam finishing on 71 not out his second not out score in consecutive weeks but could not steer Bury home. Matt Durrell taking 3.42 and Nishant Mahjan 3.50. Bury remain 11th in the league but 3 clubs are within catching distance, under James McKinney the team are producing some good cricket and with better availability there is everything to play for.
Bury’s 3rd team travelled to near neighbours Nowton the home side scored 223.8. Lucas Rake top scored with 49 and James Hogg making 40. Two wickets each for Max Harrison, Ujjawal Verma and Kevin Podbury. Bury were just 16 runs short thanks to Ammad Hassan Fida scoring 62 (off 71 deliveries) Harrison 27 and Hamidullah Kharoti 27 off just 10 deliveries Oli Heatrick taking 4.18.
Bury’s 4th team were at home to Woolpit’s 5th side and another enjoyable and close encounter. Woolpit scored 203 thanks to Neena Woollaston (48) Ben Britton (55) Michael Faulkner taking 4.67 and Manav Raghavendra 4.26. Chasing the Woolpit total Bury made 191.9 Viq Ahmed top scored with 60 Manav scoring 22 and his brother Mayank 22. Jack Lee chipped in with 21. Britton taking 6.38.
On Sunday Bury played the outstanding Division 9 west match at Mildenhall’s ground another close contest Bury making 136 losing early wickets at 7.2 proved costly Yogesh Kumar 25, Ben Baldock 23 and Steven Graham 35.
Mildenhall reached the target with Kirk Grimwood scoring 26 Two wickets each for Toby Liles and Graham. Bury are now 5th in the league which is a big improvement on early season
