Disappointing week for senior teams
A disappointing day at The Victory Ground where Bury St Edmunds the home side were asked to bat by Sawston. Will Routledge opened scoring with 48 from 117 deliveries being out just after lunch having lost Archie Jones (18) Tom Rash (13) and captain Josh Cantrell without scoring. Bury were indebted to Ben Whittaker for scoring 46 off 37 deliveries being final out for 46 in a final score of 190. Tom Rash removed Sawston opener Ralph Hayward with the 3rd delivery of the innings. Young Isaac Walshe who was injured on debut early season took his first EAPL wicket that of Ethan Rice caught Rash for 24 at 45.2 Ben Claydon scored 45 in just over an hour being 3rd out on 136 but Calum Guest carried his bat for 91 as Sawston won by 7 wickets.
Bury’s second team travelled to Worlington and for the second time this season were beaten in the main by the home sides overseas player Colin Dwyer. Worlington batted first scoring 292.3 having lost an early wicket the partnership of 158 runs between Graham Ford (98) and Anders Bester (81) gave the visitors a mountain to climb as Dwyer added 76 not out with 6 x 4 and 5 x 6.James McKiiney taking 2.58 and Justin Bishop 1.24.
Bury were in early trouble losing three of the top 5 batsman’s for nought, Bishop made 10 Zyan Imam 18 and Cameron Ford 12 but from 72.6 the team staged a recovery thanks to Joe Corder (44) and captain James McKinney (59) who put on 91 for the 6th wicket but as so often happens after a good stand both went close together Dom Ford (22 not out) and Krishna Sinha (11) added 44 for the final wicket in a final total of 215.
Bury’s 3rd team visited the Real Oddies and scored 108 Sam Aldous scoring 35 and Ammad Hassan Fida 24 but after being 1.85 the batting collapsed. Prithuin Manjunathaswamy taking 5.23.
Bury bowled better taking 6 wickets with Manjunathaswamy scoring 42 not out Danny Harrison taking 3.27 Kevin Podbury 2.33 and Max Harrison 1.26.
A close and competitive match was played on the Victory Ground s second pitch, Stowmarket who are looking for promotion from Division 9 West scored 241 Richard Barter making 65 and Will Stairmore 52. Imogen Grove bowled particularly well 5.1.18.4 Leo Park 3.0.15.2 and Sam Pennell 6.0.25.2 were amongst the 8 bowlers used. Young James Daly batted well with 24 scored from 36 deliveries Jala Pathan added 28 but the key batting came from Nick Curran with 61 and Imogen Grove with 51 not out which included a number of shots ending up toward the Sicklesmere Road, brother Oscar scored 16 adding an excellent 67 runs for the 7th wicket, Bury finished just 10 runs short of the target with Michael Dowling taking 4.62 and Freddie Move 3.53. The star performer was clearly Imogen who we hope will enjoy a well-earned visit to Byron Burgers.
During the week two Under 17 games were played a win away to Bardwell where Zyan Imam scored 50 and Isaac Walshe 39. A close contest away to Tuddenham where again Imam scored 50. The under 15 team lost to Mildenhall scoring 118.9 Alexa Melton (22) Leo Park (20) and Oscar Grove 18.Mildenhall had scored 154 with Grove taking 3.19 and Toby Liles 222.
