Rain affected Saturday but big win for the 3rd team

Subject: Cricket July 19th

The start was delayed to 11.30 on Saturday with Sawston winning the toss and unsurprisingly electing to bowl, Bury openers Justin Bishop and Will Routledge commenced very carefully scoring the first run on the 21st delivery and were 20.0 after 10 overs the key was not to lose a wicket and both players frustrated the Sawston attack who kept switching their 6 bowlers with no success the wicket of Routledge finally came in the 25th over when he was caught by Wayne White off Ben Claydon for 36 but Bishop was playing extremely well as one 6 cleared the outdoor nets and landed under the parked tractor!
At lunch after 29 overs the score was 104.1 with Bishop 63 not out an innings with 10 x 4 and 1 x 6 however light drizzle became heavy rain and the match was abandoned a great pity because a very good game was in prospect, next week Bury travel to Horsford who were the only team to complete a win on Saturday away to bottom club Ashmanhaugh and closed the gap with Sawston at the top to 13 points.
The 2nd team game with Abberton was abandoned without a ball being balled.
A very good result for Bury’s 3rd team away to East Bergholt’s 2nd team. The home side batted first scoring 150.7 Nathan Philpot top scored with 72 before being bowled by Danny Harrison, Harrison also ended Alfie Fosters innings of 37 runs stumped by Simon Aldous, 2 wickets for Joel Johnson and one each for Max Harrison, Sam Aldous and Alex Malcom.
The Bury reply was built around Zyan Imam scoring 69 not out, 36 from Simon Aldous and Krishna Sinha scoring 28 not out in an unbeaten partnership of 76 with Imam to win the game, these two young players showing great promise, a win that lifted the team out of the bottom two in Two Counties Division 6 and was the second consecutive victory providing the prospect of more positive results to come.
Bury’s 4th team only managed 34.1 against Tuddenham 2nds which was a great pity as a good game was in prospect with many young players taking part.
On Sunday and Monday much of the 3 day game between Suffolk and Buckinghamshire was lost to rain.
During the week The Under 15 Eagles played East Bergholt scoring 80 which included an excellent 33 not out from Thomas Rayner. The East Bergholt last pair of Peyton Burdon and Joseph Newman secured a win in the penultimate over despite some remarkable bowling from Jack Lee 4 overs, 2 maidens, 10 runs for 5 wickets.
