Some good cricket including match against an Australian Touring team. Next week Suffolk play Buckinghamshire at the Victory Ground.

Bury St Edmunds hosted Copdock in the Thurlow Nunn East Anglian Premier League on Saturday coming after two defeats it was important that Bury made a good total to restore confidence, home captain Josh Cantrell won the toss and elected to bat, it was careful start, Will Routledge scored 28 before being stumped by Jacob Marston off the bowling of Stewart Hepburn with the score on 47 in the 18th over six overs later Will Jarman was caught by Sam Arthurton for the same score and bowler. Archie Jones scored 18 being out caught Marston off Luke Froggart with the score on 99.
Some excellent batting followed with Harry Gallian looking good scoring 74 with 7 x 4 and 2 x 6. He was out on 200.4 after a 21 over partnership with Cantrell. Sean Park produced a brisk 32 off just 18 deliveries that included 3 x 4 and 2 x 6. Alex Maynard made 17 but the 80 not out from Cantrell was the key to setting a sizeable target of 306.6.
The visitors opened with Sam Arthurton fresh from scoring 183 the week before, cricket can be totally unpredictable as Tom Rash found the edge of his bat the first ball and Arthurton was caught by wicket keeper Maynard. Fellow opener Ollie Burle and Ishaan Rakesh took the score to 98 before Rakesh was out for 68 as Tom Davey took a good catch off Oliver Riddick, Alex Oxley made a patent 12 as the next 10 overs produced just 16 runs. Oxley was out stumped Maynard off Riddick on 114.3. Marston scored a run a ball 32 that included 2 x 6 and 6 x 4 one over going for 22 with Sean Park spending more time fielding in the car park than the boundary! He became the first of Cantrell’s four wickets on 153.4.
Stewart Hepburn made a rapid 41 off just 20 deliveries that included a 6 with the ball lodged in the conifer tree, as the visitors did their best to up the tempo, Harper was out first ball and finally Ollie Burke was out having carried his bat for a solid 67 off 135 deliveries after he was out Luke Froggatt and Rajan Singhplayed out the final 8 overs taking the final score to 253.7. Cantrell taking 4.69 0ff 18 overs. The home side had the better of the match next up a home game with leaders Sawston and Babraham followed by second placed Horsford.
Bury’s 2nd team visited Copdock playing at Clay Hall the home side won the toss and scored 214 it was excellent bowling from Josh Owen with 5.44 that was important, James McKinney taking 2.20 Richard Pineo scoring 61 and Cameron Stradwick 45. Bury’s reply centred around Zyan Imam who made 61 Max Whittaker scored 18 but not enough runs by the middle and late order as Bury were all out 132. However the team remain in second place in two Counties Division Two with three clubs behind within 11 points.
A welcome win for Bury’s 3rd team away to West Mersea with a star performance from Ben Howland who scored 106 not out in Burys total of 227 Danny Harrison supported him with 31 and Vjjawal Verma 30 not out The home side were all out for 166 with James Roller scoring 69 he was lbw to Finlay Bonas who figures of 15.4 lead the way, Harrison with 3.35 and Verma 2.24.

The under 13 team played Woolpit scoring 125 with Tom Howard scoring 41 and Phillipa Frost 20 Woolpit scored 126.5 Antonia Weston taking 2.13

Last Wednesday Bury St Edmunds with a number of guest players played a double header against The Crusaders Touring team from Australia the main game had the visitors scoring 311 from 45 overs. Liam Connor Hastings of Melbourne University scored 129 not out and Mike Winnike 94 the innings included a remarkable 39 off just 15 deliveries by their captain Jai Lemire a player contracted to New South Wales and regarded by some as a future Australian wicket keeper. 2 wickets for Ben Harris and Alex Cruickshank.
Jayden Goodwin guesting from Frinton scored 60 Kieren Pell of Woolpit 69 with 70 from Bury’s Cruickshank.
The game reached an amazing climax with the last pair of James McKinney and Will Parker needing 4 for the home side to win, in fact a win either side, draw or tie was all possible, in the event Will Parker drove the final ball through long off for 4 well deserved by someone who has helped create such an excellent playing surface.
The second game was won well by the Australians all of whom were most appreciative of Bury St Edmunds, they stated it was one of the best club grounds they have experienced. Their 30 day tour takes them all around England amongst the past Crusaders players are G.J. Maxwell, A.J.Finch, D.J.Hussey, V.S.Solanki, P.D.Collingwood, A.J.Hollioake, Chris Schofield, Ryan Sidebottom and Ian Harvey.
